Useful information

  1. Parking is free, but the lot is small and fills up quickly

A short trip through the Lenepa Valley to the Lepenjica River waterfalls

Starting point

A small parking lot along the road that leads from the Soča River to the end of the Lepena Valley. Parking is free, but the lot is small and can fill up with cars early in the morning.

Description of the hike

We arrived at the parking lot in the Lepena Valley early in the morning, but it was already almost full. So we left the car parked along the road and set off toward the waterfalls. A forest trail leads from the parking lot down to the river. There’s also a wooden footbridge to make walking easier on the rougher terrain. We reached the water fairly quickly. Unfortunately, signs at the parking lot already indicated that work was underway to secure the trail near the waterfalls, so the part of the route we wanted to take was closed. We crossed the river via the wooden footbridge and continued along the ravine. The trail climbs slightly, but it’s nothing too strenuous. Plus, there are constant beautiful views of the wild Lepenjica River and its waterfalls. We reached another bridge across the river. Here, we took a long break and enjoyed the wild nature. Then we headed back along the other side of the river. There’s also a short detour to what is probably the most beautiful waterfall with a pool. We then returned along the forest trail to the parking lot, where there were already huge crowds of people.

The route is very short; all you need is a small supply of water.
