Parking lot at the Bumbálka border saddle. The parking is free of charge, access from Horní Bečva.
The first day was clearly the most challenging. It was mainly because of the heat, which tortured us all day. Therefore, we left the parking lot early in the morning and walked along the asphalt road to Masaryk's hut. Here we did not linger and continued along the wide forest path along the ridge. The path follows the state border and climbs slightly. Our first short stop was the Kmínek hut, which is situated in a small saddle. Here we had some drinks and moved on.
From the cottage the path climbs up to the Korytovo hill. We continued along the wide path to the Kelčovský saddle. From the saddle we climbed again, this time to the Lukavice hill. The path led us alternately through the forest and across meadows, which offered views of the surrounding beautiful landscape. Another climb awaited us at Bobek Hill, where the road climbs steeply through the village of the same name. From the saddle below the hill there are great views of the highest parts of the Beskydy Mountains. By then the heat was really uncomfortable and the expedition members were getting tired. Fortunately, a short distance from the saddle is Panorama Ranch, which also has a Beskydy Buffet. Here we had a longer rest with a wonderful view of the Little Fatra.
From the refreshment we continued along the forest path and started to descend to the road border crossing Bílá/Klokočov. The descent at the end is steeper, but the highest mountains of the Beskydy Mountains are again beautifully visible. From the saddle we continued along the red trail partly through the forest, partly through open countryside. Eventually we descended slightly to the Dorot'anka hut, where we had arranged accommodation. On the first day we successfully drank and ate well.
After the cold front passed, it finally cooled down, which was more than welcome. We descended from the hut to the settlement below the hut and continued on the red trail. It started to climb from the settlement and actually climbed up to the Sulov hill. From there, on the other hand, we descended very steeply to the beginning of the village of Bílý Kříž. There is also a refreshment centre here and so we stopped for lunch. This was made more interesting by a bunch of cowboys on horseback, who also came to have a beer.
From the refreshment we continued along the yellow trail. We left the main border ridge of the Beskydy Mountains. The road continues past the White Cross, which stands here in memory of a murdered member of the border police. The road continued pleasantly, with occasional downhill and uphill. Eventually we reached the mountain meadows, where there are cottages and huts. Following the asphalt road, we reached the Švarná Hanka hut, where we again refilled our liquids and filled our bellies. Then we continued along the ridge past the buildings to the destination of today - the mountain hotel Charbulák. Here we spent the second night.
In the morning we had a royal breakfast and set off. Soon we left the asphalt road and started descending gently down the ridge following the yellow trail. In the forest we also left the marked path and continued along the dirt road to the village of Školeny. After the settlement we turned off and started descending into the valley of the Ostravice River along a forest path. In the valley we reached the resort of Bílá along the cycle path and partly along the road. The way was made more interesting by the participants of the GumBalkan race, who greeted us by honking their horns. In Bílá we had lunch and waited for the bus, which took us back to the border crossing Bumbálka, where we had parked our car.
The pleasant trek leads largely along the Czech-Slovak border. The whole time you walk along marked paths. There are some climbs along the way, but it's nothing terrible. The first day was the hardest in terms of the length of the route, but mainly because of the weather. It was very hot. Otherwise, the whole trek was completed by smaller kids, so I recommend it for a family trek.
There are several refreshment options along the way, mainly mountain huts. Right at the beginning there is Masaryk's hut and Kmínek hut, further on the trail there is Panorama Ranch and Doroťanka hut, where we slept. The next day there is a refreshment Sulov on Bílý Kříž and a hut Švarná Hanka. And also the hotel Charbulák, where we slept the second night. And there are also restaurants in the resort of Bílá, where we finished the trek. Even so, we had about 1.5 liters per person with us and it was almost too little.
We spent the night at the Dorot'anka cottage and at the Charubulák Mountain Hotel. There are other chalets on the route, but you need to book accommodation in time. In the summer season it is usually crowded.
The route leads over several border peaks, e.g. Beskyd 900 m above sea level, Lukavice 898 m above sea level, Bartkův vrch 871 m above sea level and Súľov 900 m above sea level. However, in good weather you can also see the High Tatras.
The route is safe and there is no difficult section. Almost all the time you walk on marked paths. The biggest problem for us was the heat on the first day. But with enough fluids it can be managed.
On the route there are several huts where you can eat - Masarykova chata, chata Kmínek, Panorama Ranch, chata Doroťanka, refreshment Súľov, chata Švarná Hanka and Charbulák Mountain Hotel.
