Sightseeing trip in Podyjí to Sealsfield's Stone

Description of the hike

From the road connecting the villages of Popice and Konice we set off along a wide dirt road along the vineyard. Soon we joined a green hiking trail that led us into the forest. The path through the beautiful deciduous forest continues along a wide path. It only slightly ascends. We passed the signpost for the Trouznice valley and continued along the green trail. The path then climbs more steeply, but it's nothing terrible. Eventually we reached a rock lookout over the river Dyje. The view is beautiful, you can see Znojmo too.

From this viewpoint it is only a short walk to the Sealsfield's Stone viewpoint. There are also wooden benches to rest on. The view is again pleasant, less pleasant was the noisy crowd of tourists who just came here. So we didn't stay here too long and moved on. The path continues through the forest along a marked wide path. It descends gently and so it passed us quickly. Eventually we reached the village of Popice, where we stayed in a pub for lunch. Then we walked back to the car along the road.
 

Difficulty

A short and very easy trip, ideal for a family with children. The whole time you walk along marked paths - forest or field. There is some climbing on the route, but it is not difficult and it is short.
 

Water availability

We didn't come across a spring on the route, but the trip is short, so 0.5 litres per person is enough. In the village of Popice there are also pubs and cafes where you can refill your fluids.
 

Mountain peaks

There are no peaks on the route. The two rock lookouts offer beautiful views of the valley of the river Dyje and its surroundings.
 

Danger

There is no problem on the route. The road is wide and comfortable. The rock lookouts above the river are also without problems, they are not rock walls, but gently sloping rugged rock. There is therefore no danger of falling.
 

Food

We had lunch in a pub in the village of Popice.
 

Attractions

The destination of this trip is the Sealsfield Stone lookout. It is a rock lookout over the river Dyje. The writer Charles Sealsfield, a native of nearby Popice, liked to visit this place. A memorial plaque is carved into the stone right next to the viewpoint. The first inscription was already there in 1873. The inscription has been modified several times. The original inscription was restored in 2016.
