Trip to Vávra Rock in the Highlands

Starting point

Parking lot at the municipal office in the village of Zubří near Nové Město na Moravě. Parking is free of charge.

Description of the hike

We started our trip in the village of Zubří, where we connected to the blue tourist trail. We followed the trail to the Zuberský pond, which is a popular place for swimming in summer. At the pond we joined the green trail. We continued along the forest trail to the Jasenka recreation centre. There is an open restaurant and it is possible to refresh yourself with something good. The path continues along the forest asphalt. After the trail we came to the Jára Cimrman's Footprint monument. Further on, the path leads through the forest on a wide path to the state road. Here the sign leads for a while just along the road, which is not pleasant, as cars drive quite fast here. That's why we immediately crossed over to the meadow. After that we started to climb up to the Vávra rock. We joined the dirt road and followed it to the rock itself.

Here there were already climbers enjoying a short but nice climb. Without belaying it is possible to climb to the top from the back of the rock. From the top there is a beautiful view of Nové Město na Moravě and its wide surroundings. From the rock we followed the trail around a small forest and returned along the meadow to the state road. We crossed it and continued along the dirt road back to Zubří. There is no hiking sign here, but the path is clearly marked and very pleasant. There are again beautiful views of the surrounding area. After this path we returned to Zubří to the car.Field path back to Zubří.

Difficulty

A simple hike along forest or dirt paths. The elevation gain is small and there is no steep climb. The route is ideal for families with children or as a hike with a dog.

Water availability

There may be a bistro on the outskirts of Zubri open in season, but it was closed during our trip. The restaurant is in the Jasenka recreation centre.

Mountain peaks

Vávrova skála is an ideal vantage point. From its surroundings you can enjoy a beautiful view towards Nové Město na Moravě and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

Danger

A walk in the woods or fields is perfectly fine. We didn't walk part of the route on the road, but in the meadow. The road is very steep in this place and cars and motorbikes go very fast here. The path through the meadow, on the other hand, is pleasant and safe. It is possible to climb the Vávra rock itself without climbing equipment, but it is already pure rock terrain, so caution is necessary.

Food

The restaurant is in the Jasenka Zubří recreation centre. It is open every day. Otherwise it is good to have a small snack with you. But the route is not very long.

Attractions

Vávrova skála is a separate rock formation near Nové Město na Moravě. The rock has dimensions of about 18x18x10 metres. It is located at an altitude of 740 m above sea level. The rock formation was formed in the Quaternary period by frost and water. The rock is also used by mountaineers, but it is possible to climb to the top without problems even without belay.
