Parking lot at the cemetery in the village of Čechy pod Kosířem. This parking lot is free of charge.
From the village of Čechy pod Kosířem I set off along the blue hiking trail. However, the trail ends right after entering the forest, so I joined the yellow trail. After that I started to climb slowly up a wide path through the forest. The climb continued to the border of the forest and meadow. Here we turned and continued very gently uphill towards the summit. Eventually a forest path led me to the very top of the hill. The top of the hill is dominated by a lookout tower, but it is closed indefinitely for technical reasons. Which is a pity, because the better view is obstructed by mature trees. The stone base of the tower allows at least some views of the landscape, so I could see the Jeseníky Mountains, although the visibility was not good. The shop in the tower was closed, I guess it works in the main tourist season. There are plenty of places to rest around the tower - benches and shelters.
From the top I went back along the green hiking trail. First along the forest path, then we joined the asphalt road. The trail also goes past the source of the Deštná river, but the source is dirty and untidy. So I continued on the green trail, which after some time left the asphalt road and switched to the forest trail. Finally, at a cross in the woods, I left the marked path and started to walk back along the wide forest path. I rejoined the tarmac path for a while, but soon turned off into the woods and followed the unmarked but well maintained path back to the cemetery car park.
A simple and short hike that is mostly on marked trails. These are wide forest paths, asphalt roads or trails. The elevation gain is not great and the climb to the top is gradual. Ideal for families with children or as a hike with a dog.
I didn't come across any wells on the trail. The route goes around the Deštná spring, but the water is definitely not drinkable. That is why it is good to have your own water.
The hill Velký Kosíř 442 m above sea level is the highest point of the whole Haná. There is a lookout tower on its top, which is unfortunately closed. Even so, views are possible, for example of the Jeseníky Mountains.
The route is absolutely safe and easy. Most of the time it is on wide roads or forest paths. There are no exposed places.
The kiosk at the Velký Kosíř lookout tower is probably open in high season. It was closed at the time of my trip. The trail is short, you just need some snacks. The trail is absolutely safe and easy. Most of the time it is on wide roads or forest paths. There are no exposed places.
The first lookout tower stood on Velké Kosíř in 1927 - 1939. However, due to its poor technical condition it had to be removed. The current tower was built in 2013. The tower has a wooden-steel construction with a stone base. In its bowels there is a kiosk and an information stand. The viewing platform is at a height of 25 metres. Due to its poor technical condition, the lookout tower has been closed since April 2024 until further notice. It was closed at the time of my trip.
