Mountains Salzkammergut

The Salzkammergutberge (Salzkammergutberge in Czech) is a beautiful region spanning three federal states - Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria. The whole area is rich in lakes, which are surrounded by deep forests and rocky peaks towering above them. For this reason it is a very popular tourist destination.

The highest area, the Osterhorngruppe, is the closest to Salzburg and the highest peak in the entire mountain range, the Gamsfeld at 2 028 m. Above the beautiful Lake Wofgangsee rises the Schafberg 1 780 m above sea level. To the east of the lake is another mountain range, the Höllengebirge, with the Grosser Höllkogel 1 862 m above sea level. There are a large number of holiday resorts in the area.
